7 Rules for Making THE HOBBIT Movie - Mania.com

Shared via AddThis

Not that i agree with everything the article said-- for example, i think we should keep with the 13 dwarves that went on the Quest of Erebor. I also didn't agree with the trolls-i liked that bit about the trolls turning into stone at sunlight. I did find it great that Gandalf was able to stall them when thinking about how to cook/eat the dwarves and Bilbo....really liked that part from the book. :) Want to see that cinematically!
I agreed about making Smaug scary and amazing though. He's the main villain so he must be amazing. Elves shouldn't sing as much either. :P Those funny bits from Rankin and Bass' version were funny. :)

I'm feeling kinda...: Frodo!!!
Elvish tune:: "Concerning Hobbits"

Did i ever tell you I love Sean Bean and his Boromir? Because i also do...and he's just amazing with his lines and his acting.

and FRODO! I took way too many big scene pics of Frodo. Omg those eyes...the eyes!!! Even sister thought they were "piercing" ;). Speedyhobbit and I squee-ed a lot...we tried to be quiet but i think the family in back of us kept on making funny looks at each other and maybe thought that our action figure playing was a bit odd. :P

And the Manuscripts were very cool today. They were featured at the Fordham University Library. I saw Tolkien's drafts of the Mines of Moria, Tolkien's timelines of where the Fellowship was after the Breaking of the Fellowship and also saw drafts of the hobbit calendar, Tolkien's old menus from Oxford, and even a hobbit measurement system that Tolkien created! (It used toes as the first unit of measurement...and i forgot the rest because i was so in awe...)Think Dreamflower would like to have seen that. ;)

Love.
LotR Fandom is Love.

Now, how to get back down from Cloud Frodo?

awwww Frodo!!!! ;)

Pics coming soon................. they would be courtesy of Speedyhobbit and Grey_wonderer, me thinks. And probably ainu_laire has pics too. :)

FRODO!! :D

I'm starting my LotR squee early with this event:
http://www.paleycenter.org/fall-2009-shore-on-the-score-the-music-of-the-lord-of-the-rings

They're going to have HOWARD SHORE there and he's going to be talking about the score and the many creative challenges posed by scoring The Lord of the Rings films. :D Billy Boyd is going to be at that event too! And this is only in LESS THAN TWO DAYS TIME!!! :D

http://store-locator.barnesandnoble.com/event/63168

And TORN just announced a mega marathon viewing on 10/10 i think... i'm going to the concert and Manuscripts (http://www.marquette.edu/library/information/news/2009/JRRT_Fordham-Registration.html) that day so i dunno if i can see LotR back-to-back but i've meaning to do it for a while. :P

I think i actually got scheduled 10/11 to see the Manuscripts. I need to get out of work in the morning for that though.

Omg i'm so excited! I can't wait to see fellow LJers too! Don't worry, i will make time to see you!

Wow just wow... the amount of creativity that the movies and books have led to.... i wonder if this parody is good/not....The songs seem funny already.  I wonder how a serious LotR becomes a funny musical. That is quite interesting. I always wanted to see the LotR Musical that was in Toronto and London but never got a chance.  Hope it comes to NY nevertheless because ya know, anything Tolkien/LotR related is worth taking a look!! ;)

Finally got to watch the buzz surrounding "The Hunt for Gollum"

May 6th, 2009 (10:39 pm)
I'm feeling kinda...: love!
Elvish tune:: "The Hunt for Gollum"

40 minutes Fan film that is really good. It is about Aragorn going on the hunt for Gollum with appearances from Gandalf and Arwen...random ranger, orcs and wraiths!

http://www.dailymotion.com/gb/video/x93zji_the-hunt-for-gollum-hd-version_shortfilms

Loved the music & scenery-- and the Aragorn wasn't bad either. :D The dialogue bit in the beginning between Aragorn and Gandalf was one of my fave parts for it was very canonical. I was telling my friend that this must've taken place 3017, year before The Great Years.

Please tell me what you think when you see it! It whets my appetite sooooo much for The Hobbit! :D

Can't wait for The Hobbit!!!!!!

Fandom news

May 6th, 2009 (08:28 pm)
excited

I'm feeling kinda...: excited

So Tolkien came out with a new book posthumously thanks to Christopher Tolkien. "The Legend of Siguard & Gudrun" is out yet i didn't get it yesterday (which was opening day) which is kinda surprising since i usually get Tolkien related things opening day. ;)

Here are some reviews:
http://www.libraryjournal.com/article/CA6655942.html
and Christopher Tolkien answers q's here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/may/05/jrr-tokien-sigurd-gudrun-poem
and from the Washington Post:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/04/AR2009050403462.html
(haven't read that one yet but intend to)

Some bits of the review from "The Guardian" here:

Telling in verse the story of Sigurd the Völsung and the fall of the Niflungs – also adapted by Wagner into the Ring cycle – The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún sees the hero Sigurd kill the dragon Fafnir (a slaying which may have influenced Tolkien's writing of Bilbo's encounter with Smaug in The Hobbit), take his gold and rescue the Valkyrie Brynhild from her imprisonment on a rock surrounded by fire. Love, magic, jealousy, and, eventually, tragedy in the murder of Sigurd and the suicide of Brynhild ensue.

It seems very unlike anything from Middle-earth so i'm not sure if i'm going to get it asap since i have more studying to do till i break for a vacation last week of May. Might coerce MM to get it for me if i do get it. ;)

...

And! the official site for the Radio City Music Hall Fellowship of the Ring concert is up!
http://www.theradiocitylotrconcert.com/
Its' been up for a while and i keep good updates on it via Facebook. :P
Planning to go with 3 ppl already..but which LJers are in??? =) It'll be so cool to have you come for that!

I'm going to get tix soon. :)

It's exciting, mellon nin! :D

What a terribly embarrassing loss

April 28th, 2009 (02:42 am)
I'm feeling kinda...: in pain

Dear New Orleans...
i feel so bad for you right now. We thought that we would go far, do better, but not lose Game 4 of the Best of Seven series by 50+ points...
that is beyond embarrassment.
And i feel your pain for some reason.
Because your star player is wonderful (and he's my fave player!) but he surely got shut down tonight... only 4 points... that is the worst he's every played.

The season is over... we'll play game 5 but i do not think it'll be that great of a result...It's over...(3 games to 1 at the moment, and no, i do not believe in miracles.) :p

NBA is over, my dear friends here on LJ....(well, i'll be rooting for Dallas and Orlando, probably... yes my home team still sucks and didn't even *make* the playoffs :p)

let's go back to being hobbity...

it's much less painful than seeing the final score of today's loss. :(

oh the pain~ :(

~le sigh~
so sad.....:(

I love Chris Paul <3

March 29th, 2009 (10:26 pm)
I'm feeling kinda...: CP3=Love
Elvish tune:: ESPN Hornets vs. Spurs

He is amazing... he's an ultra competitor on the court but off the court, he is such a nice guy...
i love him ...his Hornets better go far in the playoffs.
Choked against the Knicks but about to grab the win against the 2nd seeded Spurs...

But CP3...jeez he is Love. :D Beauty, humbleness, just Love.

(oh don't worry, i love Frodo & hobbitses too! ;)

I've always been curious...

March 26th, 2009 (10:04 pm)
curious

I'm feeling kinda...: curious

It's lessened with the hobbity-ness around here these days so i'm curious on what people squee about here now...
There is obviously still lots of LotR love and squee with "Back to Middle-earth Month" and there are many places still active with LotR love but among my lovely f-list--- what else do you like?

And please comment and tell me about your current obsession. :) That would be nice too...(so i can check it out if i have time. :p)

Cheers, mellyn nin!

I had to write... “For the Quest is Achieved, and now all is over.”

March 25th, 2009 (12:56 am)
creative

I'm feeling kinda...: creative

A double drabble celebrating the occasion. ;) (I wrote a bit...just couldn't help it... good feelings with this day every year! =)

“For the Quest is Achieved, and now all is over.”

Well, this was the end indeed… As he rested upon the low ashen hill and lay there with his head back, he felt at peace with having the burden taken away….forever. He tried to breathe harder amidst the volcanic ash falling all over, drowning him with heat and dust. Frodo was exhausted as he felt his strength quickly decreasing.

Gandalf had been right. Even Gollum affected the fate of the Quest. Frodo was glad he had not slain the poor villain. Gollum was ultimately bonded to the Ring and the curse in which Frodo gave him at the cliffs of the Emyn Muil.

My dear Sam. Frodo looked towards his dearest friend who had come to the end with him and only felt indescribable gratitude. How could he have achieved this without Sam? Poor Sam had a nasty cut from the blow Gollum had dealt him and looked as dirty, hurt, and exhausted as he felt. Frodo looked at him with pity. He grasped onto Sam’s hand, drew him close for it was now not long before the end. At least he would die together with his truest, most beloved friend.
