CDC Urges Those Under Quarantine To Marathon The Extended Editions Of 'The Lord Of The Rings'

https://babylonbee.com/news/cdc-recommends-everyone-under-quarantine-immediately-begin-watching-the-extended-editions-of-the-lord-of-the-rings

Of course! What else would you do? :P

"We've found that revisiting the idyllic pastures of the Shire, journeying with Frodo and the fellowship through the mines of Moria, and immersing yourself in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields is the absolute best way to spend your time alone in quarantine," said CDC spokesperson Perry Grintook. "Whether you're weeping as Gandalf falls to the deepest delvings of the Dwarves where the world is gnawed by nameless things or cheering as he returns as Gandalf the White, every moment spent with these films is medicine for the soul."

Spoken like a true expert. :)

To the Professor!

I raise my ale to the Professor! The world will never be the same with reading your works!

I found a neat quote describing Tolkien and his influence:

Much as I admire Tolkien, and I do admire Tolkien — he’s been a huge influence on me, and his Lord of the Rings is the mountain that leans over every other fantasy written since and shaped all of modern fantasy — there are things about it, the whole concept of the Dark Lord, and good guys battling bad guys, Good versus Evil, while brilliantly handled in Tolkien, in the hands of many Tolkien successors, it has become kind of a cartoon. We don’t need any more Dark Lords, we don’t need any more, ‘Here are the good guys, they’re in white, there are the bad guys, they’re in black. And also, they’re really ugly, the bad guys."
George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones

Tell others what you drank for Tolkien's bday toast!

Fall of Gondolin

Yours truly just got Fall of Gondolin. This tale is interesting because Tolkien actually started writing bits of it in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme. It's his oldest tale, while Beren and Luthien is the grandest and one of the most epic in First Age, arguably.

As always, Alan Lee's illustration graces the cover and makes it oh so wonderful to look at. :D
Anyone else planning to get it? Anyone want me to spam pictures?
Can read more of it here:

Now my old tales collection is complete with CHildren of Hurin, Beren and Luthien and Fall of Gondolin! :D :D :D
